Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial Intelligence is a technology and a branch of computer science that deals with the study and development of intelligent machines and softwares.

Artificial Intelligence is teaching the machines to learn, think, decide and act as humans would.

Artificial Intelligence means making machines capable of performing quick tasks like human beings.

An Artificial Intelligence is a technology by which we can develop the intelligent machines that behaves like humans. It means AI machines can learn from their surround, think on it and act just like humans.

Why an Artificial Intelligence?

Before going into the deep study of an Artificial Intelligence, Let us know some reasons of why to learn about AI :-
With the help of AI,

• You can create such software or devices which can solve real-world problems very easily with accuracy such as health issues, marketing, traffic issues, etc.
• You can build such Robots or machines that can work in hostile environment (unfriendly environment) where survival of humans can be at risk.
• You can create your personal virtual Assistant, such as Cortana, Google Assistant, Siri, etc.
• It opens a path for other new technologies, new devices, and new job Opportunities.
• Building a machine which can perform like a human intelligence do, such as:
  • Playing chess
  • Proving a theorem
  • Plan some surgical operation
  • Driving a car in traffic without driver
  • use as a military weapons during war etc.
• Creating some system which can exhibit intelligent behavior, learn new things by itself, demonstrate, explain, and can advise/suggest to its user.

Types of Artificial Intelligence (Based on Capabilities)

On the Bases of Capabilities, Artificial Intelligence may be divided into two categories as :-
1. Weak AI or Narrow AI
2. Strong AI or Broad AI

1. Weak AI : When an Artificial Intelligence works around specific task only in closed domain, then this form of AI is called weak AI. These AI devices are designed to perform specific tasks. It is also known as Narrow AI.
Such Weak AI systems are driver-less cars, smart home system, virtual assistant(Alexa, Siri, Cortona, voice Google), Shopia (Household Robot), playing chess etc.
Few Weak or Narrow AI systems bundling them into a Broad or stronger AI.
"Weak AI focuses on one task and cannot perform beyond its limitations (common in our daily lives)"

2. Strong AI : When an Artificial Intelligence works in a vast scope of activities with generalised human cognitive abilities, then this form of AI is called Strong AI. These AI devices are able to find a solution without human intervention. It is also known as Broad AI.
Such Strong AI systems are Robots.
Other examples:- If a machine might hear “good morning” and start to associate that with the coffee maker turning on.
